Honeywell Aerospace offers an opportunity for a talented scientist of engineer, design lead with demonstrated experience in power electronics for motor drives, to join Advanced Technology organization in Brno, Czech Republic. You will work in the Electro-Mechanical Systems department on the development of motor controller technologies and systems for aerospace, pushing the boundaries in reliability and power density.

As a member of cross-functional team, your work will span from the early stage technology research up to the prototype demonstration in the harsh environment. This role assumes ability to deal with challenging and often conflicting design requirements in an innovative way.   • Ownership of inverter and power conversion development projects - in the power electronics sub-domain
  • Lead other scientists and engineers, provide mentorship and trainings in power electronics
  • Architecture definition and trade studies related to motor control, inverters, power conversion - selection of topologies and key components
  • Definition of specifications and requirements based on system-level requirements
  • Development of prototype inverters and other power electronic circuitry (schematic design, cooperation on layout with layout engineers), related design and analysis
  • Planning and execution of EMI/EMC testing per aerospace (DO-160) and military (MIL-STD) standards (development and informal verification testing)
  • Cooperation with mechanical and thermal engineers, solving challenges with integration of power electronics into the defined space or envelope
  • Participation in design and research related to motor control algorithms
  • Component and system-level testing, integration, and verification of motor controller prototypes
  • Participation on software and firmware development with software/FPGA engineers, debugging and testing
  • Participation on the project planning and budgeting

You must have:

  • M.Sc. or PhD. in Electrical Engineering - Power Electronics preferred
  • Solid experience in design of power electronics on circuit level
  • Previous experience with whole development cycle including low-level requirements and design, component and system-level integration, testing and verification
  • Solid knowledge of electric AC machines
  • Experience in design for EMI/EMC compatibility, EMI/EMC testing
  • Experience with MATLAB/Simulink, P-SPICE/LTspice or similar tools
  • Demonstrated experience providing technical leadership and mentoring
  • Demonstrated experience to lead research and development projects
  • Ability to write technical specifications and requirements, prepare detail design documentation
  • Basic project management skills, ability to present project results on regular basis (in English)
  • Willingness to be responsible for key technical decisions
  • Good command of English (both written and spoken)
